INVEST IN THE RIGHT PERSON FOR YOU

Choosing the right photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make for your wedding day. It’s a big investment and the choice you make isn’t just about the photos you receive, but also the experience you will have on the day. You’ll spend more time with your photographer than anyone else at your wedding (well, except perhaps for each other) which is why it’s so important to find someone you connect with, who makes you feel comfortable, so that when your big day rolls around and your photographer arrives it’s like catching up with an old friend.

“Lost for words. Thank you for capturing our day so honestly.”

 SUPER 8 WEDDING FILMS

Super 8 film is the original home-movie format. It is so beautifully nostalgic and perfectly suited to wedding videos. I started shooting Super 8 at weddings to capture films that reminded me my parents’ generation of wedding videos. Not overdone, cinematic snooze-fests, but simple, honest videos that look like their were filmed by a real person. These films will compliment your wedding photos perfectly.

Super 8 wedding films are available alongside photography packages, and also as a standalone videography service for off-peak dates and last-minute bookings.
Please get in touch to check availability for a super 8 wedding video on your date.

HANDMADE
WEDDING ALBUMS

I am a huge believer that everyone should print their photos. Sure, it’s convenient to whip out your phone and scroll through the never-ending feed, but in 40 years when you’re showing your grandchildren your wedding photos, do you want them to be swiping through them on a screen, or would you rather they have a beautiful album sitting in their lap. An album that has been on your shelf since you got married and that has been viewed and touched by everyone you love? I know what my answer would be.

I offer beautiful 10x10 inch leather-bound albums that are 100% made by hand (not my hands, hands of incredible folks that know how to make albums). Your photos are printed on Kodak photographic paper and processed through wet chemistry (just like film). This process produces prints that are much less prone to scratching and smudges (no white gloves needed here). Sure, it’s not as cheap as a handful of 6x4 Officeworks prints, but your wedding album will become a family heirloom, something that will be cherished for generations to come, so it’s only fitting that it is made with the same amount of love that you feel every time you look at the photos it contains.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

SO HOW DOES THIS WHOLE FILM THING WORK COMPARED TO DIGITAL?

From your point of view, it’s pretty much the same. I’ll turn up to your wedding with some cameras, you’ll have the best day ever, and I’ll take photos of it all. When the photos are ready you’ll receive a link to an online gallery of digital images just like this one. Pretty simple right?

The main difference is what happens behind the scenes. After your wedding I send the colour film to a professional lab to be processed, while I develop the black & white film myself at home. I then scan the processed negatives using specialised film scanners to create an extremely high quality digital reproduction of the images. These are curated, edited, then saved as JPEG files and uploaded to your private gallery. You can print them, upload them to social media, and save them to your hard drive or device. I keep all my negatives in film archive folders and the digital scans are permanently backed up on physical hard drives and online cloud storage.

The bottom line is it really doesn’t matter how your images are captured or what kind of camera your photographer is using, the most important thing that you love your photographer’s work. I shoot on film because it’s the only way to get the result I want, and if you like it too then I just might be the right person for your day.

IF YOU’RE TAKING PHOTOS, WHO WILL SHOOT THE VIDEO?
If you book a super film with your photographer package, I will bring a second shooter along to capture the video. This way all the important moments are captured on both photo and video, and I’m free to concentrate on making the photos the best they can possibly be.

WE ALREADY HAVE A PHOTOGRAPHER, CAN WE BOOK YOU TO JUST SHOOT SUPER 8?
Super 8 highlight films are only available as an add-on to my photography packages, however I do offer stand alone Super 8 videography for off-peak dates or for bookings within 3 months of your wedding day.

ARE THERE LIMITATIONS TO SHOOTING A WEDDING ON FILM?

Not in my opinion. I bring a range of different cameras, lenses and lighting equipment to ensure I can work in any lighting conditions. Facing difficult scenarios at weddings has actually taught me to think more creatively about the way I use light, and as a result made me a better photographer. Rather than relying on a digital camera that can work in extremely low light, I use my flash to not only make the scene bright enough to capture on film, but also to produce better quality, natural lighting in my photos. Would you believe the images below were taken in low light using a flash?

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT LGBTQI+ WEDDINGS?

I love to capture weddings for everyone, regardless of their gender identity, sexuality, race, age, religion, or disability.

WHAT TYPE OF CAMERAS DO YOU USE? ARE THEY RELIABLE?

I have a couple of Canon EOS1v SLR bodies. These were the last professional 35mm SLRs that Canon made before they went digital. They are built like tanks, take all of my modern Canon lenses and speedlites, and have lightning fast autofocus. While there is a certain charm in using vintage equipment, I need to know my gear will perform on the day and that I won’t miss any of those amazing moments. I also bring my 1974 Hasselblad 500cm medium format camera and Chamonix 4x5 large format camera. These beauties are completely mechanical and while they’re a bit slower to use, they take the most beautiful photos.

CAN WE MEET YOU IN BEFORE WE MAKE A BOOKING?

Of course! Finding people who are the right fit is such an important part of planning your wedding day. You could hire the best photographer in the world but if they make you feel awkward, you will look awkward in your photos.

DO YOU TRAVEL FOR WEDDINGS?

Absolutely! I’m happy to travel wherever you love takes you. I do charge a travel fee for weddings more than 90 minutes from Melbourne. Let me know where you are planning your wedding and I will include any relevant travel costs.

SOUNDS GREAT, HOW DO WE LOCK YOU IN?

Fill in my enquiry form with all the details of your wedding and I will get back to you with pricing and availability. To secure your date I ask for a non-refundable deposit with the remaining balance due one week before your wedding day.

NICE PEOPLE THAT I LIKE WORKING WITH.
